This group were on a Inshore Fishing Charter trip with me almost exactly 2 years ago to the date. Their last trip we caught redfish the entire 4-hour trip. The fishing all around had been tough, even down to catching bait had been very tough so I was a little worried, as the bar had already been set for them on the last trip.
The morning started off a little cloudy as a thunderstorm had just passed a couple hours before the trip so I was really worried about there not being any bait around to be caught. We got to the bait grounds and to my surprise there was bait popping on top (or as we call it, flipping) everywhere.
I threw a little bit of my chum mixture in and made sure to let the baits get very balled up in the chum and I threw my cast net. One throw and we had 200-300 baits, more bait than I’ve caught all week.
After catching more bait I just had that gut feeling that the fishing was going to be good. We got to our first stop, I grabbed a rod, got it baited and threw it out to show the boys about where to throw it and just give them a refresher on how to feel a bite and what to do when they got a bite.
As I was holding the rod I felt like what I thought was a bite so I handed Jack the rod and before he could even grab the rod we already had our first redfish on and that’s pretty much how the fishing was the entire trip.
